Business Support in Buckinghamshire

Published | 11.40, 15th of December 2008, by Paul Butler | Business

Buckinghamshire has a wealth of commercial support. However company Directors tend not to make full use of it all because there is so much choice. We have the Buckinghamshire Ambassadors and SEEDA as well as support for local enterprise from local authorities such as Aylesbury Vale, Wycombe District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council. There is also Businesslink and the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce. This resourceful list equates to a vast knowledge-base that businesses can tap in to. It is also not so surprising then that business owners take the decision not to get involved because too much choice can be confusing.

All of us understand the importance of business networking. Connecting with potential customers via a local breakfast club can be a very rewarding. However, along with everything else, it can also add to the confusion over who is the best person or organisation to use for commercial support.

Artlines Media understands the choices that are available and can advise on the best option or options for their clients, depending on the specific advice or support that is required. We prefer to save our client's money and if that means saving them time in order to save money then that is what we will do. We can all benefit from a profitable and sustainable local economy. We just need to work together and take control of our own destiny for a change.

I was having a play with our company logo today (during lunch-break of course...) and came up with these funky-looking examples. Give the thumbnail a click to view larger and feel free to comment :)

New ideas and opportunities

Published | 13.42, 21st of November 2008, by Chris van Aurich | Business

All the headlines talk of businesses cutting enormous numbers of jobs and scaling back investments. Although much of this is sensible, new ideas must be supported and there are still opportunities to be found.

Web businesses are growing and the move from offline to online is continuing apace, you need only look at all major web retailers to have this confirmed. The web gives power to customers in times where value becomes so important, as they can compare prices and get a depth of information that is impossible through other channels. The web shakes up normal business models and any company ignoring this shift does so at its own peril.

A pound invested online is far more effective than one spent offline in this harsh consumer climate where you need to be able to track impact carefully. Making the most of these opportunities requires some flair and some risk taking.

Businesses with an online presence have the ability to move fast, test things constantly, put the customer at the heart of everything they do and are not afraid to reinvent an industry with bold new ideas. Online businesses are constantly reinventing themselves and adapting, this is key to surviving this downturn. You can have your predominantly offline product adapted to an online environment, aware that people still want to have a great time but at the moment may not have the spare cash to go out so now they can enjoy your service at home.

Google Grants for UK Charities

Published | 11.35, 14th of October 2008, by Chris van Aurich | Random

The Google Grants UK beta programme supports organisations sharing our philosophy of community service to help the world in areas such as science and technology, education, global public health, the environment, youth advocacy, and the arts.

Designed for UK charities which meet our requirements and are registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or by the Inland Revenue, Google Grants is a unique free advertising programme. It harnesses the power of our flagship advertising product, Google AdWords, to non-profits seeking to inform and engage their constituents online. Google Grants has given AdWords advertising to hundreds of qualified non-profit groups whose missions range from animal welfare to literacy, from supporting homeless children to promoting HIV education.

Google Grant recipients use their award of free AdWords advertising on Google.co.uk to raise awareness and increase traffic.

Google PageRank updates Sept 2008

Published | 12.41, 29th of September 2008, by Chris van Aurich | SEO

It's that time again, the latest instalment of Google's PageRank updates. On the upside a lot of our web/seo clients have had a significant increase. But be warned we are seeing heavy penalties for people buying links just to improve PageRank.

What is PageRank? - PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyses the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important"
